The Serenity Prayer (of AA fame) in its original entirety:

GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,

Courage to change the things I can

Wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardship as a the pathway to peace.

Taking as He did, this sinful world as it is,

not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to his will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life,

And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Amen

JAZ,

You study theology. There is a rumor that the actual source of the Serenity Prayer is H. Richard Neihbur. Do you know if that is true?

Some more info. It's up in the air about who really came up with it. . .

I have always heard that Niebuhr is this prayer's author, but am amazed and gratified to read it for the first time in its entirety; ( this, after having been a friend of Bill W's for 14 years.)
